To calculate the cost of hosting, you need to consider pocket money + Au Pair Program fees.
Your au pair is given pocket money on a weekly basis. Most families transfer this into the au pair bank account.
If an au pair goes above and beyond one week, for example caring for a sick child at home, please give a little extra. Extra hours during school holidays need to be agreed in advance and paid extra.
TIP: It is a nice gesture to pay the first week in advance so that your au pair can pay for arrival expenses such as an Australian SIM card and Working With Children's Check.
